Overview

An offline-first transaction relay node connecting local hardware interfaces to cloud services, designed to buffer operations locally and reconcile state reliably when connectivity is restored.

Problem

In environments with intermittent connectivity, POS and financial hardware fail when remote APIs are unreachable, causing transaction drops and cash flow friction.

Solution

Developed a store-and-forward architecture featuring local cryptographic queuing on the relay node, with automatic synchronization and verification once connection is re-established.

My Contribution

Engineered the local transaction buffer and serial communication protocols between hardware and relay node. Implemented offline queue management, store-and-forward transaction caching, and blockchain ledger reconciliation logic.

Technical Decisions

Implemented store-and-forward local queuing with cryptographic signatures to ensure transactions collected offline cannot be tampered with prior to cloud ledger reconciliation.

Challenges

Handling abrupt power or network termination during transaction caching, and guaranteeing idempotent synchronization without duplicate ledger records upon reconnection.

Outcome

Functional sandbox prototype demonstrating offline transaction buffering, escrow queue management, and dashboard monitoring.

What I Learned

Building for unreliable environments requires treating network connectivity as an opportunistic enhancement rather than an absolute dependency.
